Orange County golf courses for both residents and visitors are considered a mecca in the Southern California region. Here are our top six.


Orange County is the smallest county in southern California, although its size belies the attractions it has to offer. This is certainly true of golf, and there are a number of excellent Orange County golf courses that can be enjoyed by residents or visitors to the area. For those looking to experience a round of golf in Orange County, the following are some of the best courses to consider playing.

Black Gold Golf Club

This is one of the best known of the Orange County golf courses and is located in the area of the Yorba Linda foothills. The course was designed by Arthur Hills and is a Par 72, with a length of just over 6,700 yards. It is situated in a scenic area of the county, with rolling hills, water features and well placed bunkers making it a challenging and enjoyable course to play. Playing a round at Black Gold golf club also affords the opportunity to see some great views of the surrounding area including sights of Catalina Island and the Newport Beach coastline. The course also has other facilities to offer including a clubhouse and grill restaurant, golf academy, club fitting specialist and practice areas including driving range and putting greens

San Juan Hills Golf Course

This Orange County golf course has been serving the golfing public for over 40 years and is situated in San Juan Capistrano. It is a championship course, which is over 6,300 yards in length and is rated a Par 71. The course is laid out in a landscape of rolling hills, with strategically placed lakes and bunkers making it a challenging but enjoyable round of golf. It is considered one of the more affordable courses in the county and offers plenty of facilities. This includes a driving range, fully equipped pro shop, golf instructors, and club house with restaurant.

Tijeras Creek Golf Course

This is one of the Orange County golf courses situated close to the John Wayne International Airport. The course was designed by Ted Robinson and is set up in an impressive area of woodland, which features gently rolling terrain. Five sets of tees are available to suit different skill levels, with the back tees playing around 6,900 in length and rated as a par 72. The front nine holes have a number of water features, while the back nine features impressive changes in elevation to make the course an enjoyable challenge. A golf shop and practice facilities are also available at the course.

Strawberry Farms Golf Course

This course is located in Irvine, with a 35 acre reservoir being the main feature around which it is laid out. Strawberry Farm runs to 6,700 yards in length and is a par 71 facility. Water is a feature on many of the holes with the reservoir and surrounding wetlands providing some spectacular scenery to enjoy. A driving range is also available for the use of those playing the course and facilities are available for holding parties and events.

Coyote Hills Golf Course

This Orange Hill golf course is located in Fullerton and features four different sets of tees. The back tees play over 6,500 in length and the course is rated as a par 70. It was designed by Cal Olson and Payne Stewart and runs through an area of rolling hills and streams. This course features state-of-the-art amenities such as golf carts with global positioning systems, driving range, golf shop, restaurants and locker rooms with showers.

Talega Golf Club

This is a Fred Couples designed championship course, which is laid out in a coastal area of the hills of San Clemente. The course offers a scenic and challenging round of golf and is rated as a par 72, with its length running to just over 6,900 yards. As well as the course, there are plenty of other facilities to enjoy including the Signature Grille and Bar, a well stocked golf shop, driving range and event facilities.
